Hey Minty, to answer your question the Canon EOS 7D takes a Li-Ion LP-E6 Rechargeable (1800mAh) battery. Hope this answers your question.
As for your old Canon SLR camera, I would need to know what model it is before I can advise. Hope that helps.

Oi does anyone know what kind of battery the Canon 7D takes? I have an older model Canon and not sure if the old battery would fit into the new one.

My friend got this camera for her birthday 3 months ago from DDP. Had a good chance to play with it last weekend. Think i'll buy the body only option and borrow my friends lens!! Cha CHING!
